A display of contrast in everyday objects.
The Redux Project
Summary of Project
In this project, I explored reductive drawings and illustrations paired with texts and colors. The main objective of this project was to illustrate an object in it's simplest form to pair with a word that describes the object, and to finalize a design for a type of signage. My selected objects were a pair of chopsticks, a flashdrive, and some scissors. I chose a very high contrast color palette so that the object and the text can stand out more from the background. For the chopsticks, I wanted the chopstick to interact more with the text, so I aligned them with the letter i, almost like how you pick up food with the chopsticks. Creates a nice complementary towards another. For the flashdrive, I wanted to match the word "Upload" and have the flashdrive facing upwards, enlarged, while cut off to create a perspective illusion. And lastly, the scissors are very interactive with the text, following a diagonal alignment, and cutting through the text.

Part 1 - Making Images & Reductive Drawings
In this first part of the project, I started to take pictures of items in my house at different angles & lighting to get different shades of the object.
And from there, we make reductive drawings from these objects...
Part 2 - Thresholds & Silhouettes
For the second phase, I made photoshop adjustments to refine the edges of these reductive drawings and simplifying the threshold edits of the objects.
Then we create digital illustrator traces from the objects I’ve decided to move forward with…
Part 3 - Lock-ups/Iterations
In the third part of the project, since now we have original & digital drawings of objects. We can utilize these objects for small poster/signage designs. Below are 9 different designs used for the objects that I felt were the strongest in terms of direction, interactive between the objects/text, and spacing.
Final Design
And here we finalize our design with high contrasting colors, these designs have great sense of direction, flow & depiction of the word describing the objects.
